Our Story

The Sakitawak Youth Environmental Council (SYEC) is a dedicated group of youth from Sakitawak, also known as Île-à-la-Crosse, Saskatchewan. The council is committed to fostering environmental stewardship and promoting renewable energy initiatives within the community. Their mission is to empower local youth to actively participate in environmental and community development projects that integrate cultural and language teachings. The council envisions a future where young leaders are equipped to propose and implement innovative solutions that strengthen community bonds, promote sustainability, and encourage active involvement from peers. The website for SYEC will serve as a space for youth to learn and join the movement, for potential funders to see how they can support the initiative, and for the community to see how their work is impacting the community. It will feature educational content, upcoming events/learning opportunities, and stories about the youth involved. The design preferences are inspired by websites such as StudentEnergy.org, ImaGENation.com, and sevengenenergy.com. The website will include an "energy 101" page, information about the energy landscape for Sakitawak, upcoming events/learning opportunities, and stories about the youth involved.
